White and Powers to train on, access to specialized tools and software, and (most importantly) the opportunity to work with Lilly and Decato on overtime leading up to the trip to NYC. White and Powers seized every opportunity afforded them. This was important because many of the competing teams come from programs that are far more extensive than what is being offered in New Hampshire. Some of the students had been auto tech students for all four years of high school; as a result, many of them are full- time auto tech students for their junior and senior years. Some other states have their high school automotive career technical education centers operating on the same campus as their community college automotive technology programs. This has traditionally given these students a tremendous competitive edge. Aaron White and Sheamus Powers beat many of those teams because they did the extra work they needed in order to succeed. The National Automotive Technology Competition is run during the New York International Car Show at the Javits Center in Manhattan. There are teams from all over the country and a team from Canada all vying for top honors. While the competition is serious business, students are also given the opportunity to take in one of the largest car shows in the world, learn history about New York City and enjoy a city most have never visited before. Although White and Powers were there for the competi- tion with their game faces on, they were also absolutely professional and gentlemanly. In short, Aaron White and Sheamus Powers are two talented young men with limitless potential and we should be so proud of them for their performance at the National Automotive Technology Competition. Aaron White is currently employed at Toyota of Portsmouth and plans to attend Lakes Region Com- munity College enrolled in the Toyota T-Ten program. Sheamus Powers is currently employed at Hampton Ford and plans to attend Manchester Community College enrolled in the Ford ASSET program. Congratulations, Aaron and Sheamus! We have enjoyed supporting you. We look forward to watching both of you during your careers and thank you for your hard work, determination and for giving back to our industry by choosing to become the best automotive technicians you can be!
